Hi there! I just discovered this place yesterday when I got a notification on Twitter telling me that Graphic Scotland had followed me - I'm not sure how they found out about me but I'm really happy to see there's a place for me to check out other Scottish peoples' comics, and maybe get some more viewers on my own!
So, a little more about me, I live up in Aberdeenshire, in a small village known as Whitehills. It's a really quiet place, not much to do here so I spend a lot of time on the internet, talking with friends across the pond and playing games, stuff like that.
Which brings me to why I'm here - Comics! During late autumn/early winter in 2010, I'd been reading some webcomics by a couple of my friends in the states, and I decided "Hey, I should make a serious attempt at doing an original webcomic too!" My friends encouraged me to go on, so I did some concepts, thought out a basic idea, planned out the first 20 or so comics ahead so I had a buffer while I got settled in, and over a year and more than 100 pages on, here I am now.
So what is my comic called, and what's it about? The comic is Intergalactic Truckstop, and it's about a GELF (Essentially a failed attempt at making a genetically engineered supersoldier) who later escapes from the genetics lab that made him, and who ends up getting a job as a bartender at a small refueling stop in the middle of deep space. It all sounds a bit odd, and it is!
This comic is way over on the Soft end of the sliding scale of Soft to Hard sci-fi, it's not very serious, it's just a fun comic for laughs which happens to have a bit of a storyline. A lot of things inspired it, the two most major influences being Red Dwarf (Which is where I got the name GELF from), and the space combat and trading game Elite (Because I love games where you can explore a galaxy and trade goods between stations for profit).
If you're interested in checking it out, the comic is over here! (The art is absolutely terrible for a start, but that's a good thing because you get to gradually see my style improve over the year or so of working on the comic!)

Comment by Graphic Scotland on March 5, 2012 at 11:50 Hi Charlie, thanks for sharing this.
We followed you because we're trying to keep up with what artists and writers are doing all over Scotland - it's great to see some input from outside of Edinburgh and Glasgow!
Comment by Richard Buchanan on March 5, 2012 at 17:16 Hi Charlie,
Just read (some) of your comic. Great stuff. Is there a Twitter or something to remind me to look out for the latest episodes?
Comment by Charlie Wood on March 5, 2012 at 19:49 Sure thing, Richard. My twitter is @ChazGELF although I don't use it to update about Intergalactic Truckstop stuff much. I should do that more often, though!
