I am doing a dissertation this year for my publishing degree on comic book publishers' recent foray into the digital medium as compared to webcomics. I'm really not sure what the hell I'm arguing as yet. The differences in format, marketing, content, social issues, creator ownership etc. as well as the why and the why not I suppose. It will be a lot of rambling most likely.

If anyone has any thoughts on webcomics or digital comics or even the comic book publishing industry as a whole that they would like to share, it would be appreciated. I'm sure there will be lots of issues I don't think of which are worth writing about.

I'll be in the corner rereading my Scott McCloud books for the millionth time.

have you thought about the link between users of interactive computer games and readers of digital comics? Also what about fan-fiction?

The kindle is rubbish for web and digital comics, but an iPad's great. In move to eReaders, Kindle users are disadvantaged and digital publishers are disconnected from a big chunk of market.

Alison- I have thought about mentioning games especially ones that are about experiencing the story rather than actual gameplay  (like the Path) but I should probably avoid going to far down that road and stay focused. Fan-fiction, again, I'll probably mention as the literary equivalent of fans taking over a medium but I won't go to into it.

Richard- This is true. I have a Kindle and it is insanely limited. Amazon will step up their game I'm sure but it's unlikely they will ever match Apple. I have read a couple of comics on an iPad and it is pretty darn good but not everyone (including me) can afford one so digital comics have a limitation there. I wonder how well they work on phones. I don't think mine is good enough to support them.
