Digital comics vs Webcomics

I am doing a dissertation this year for my publishing degree on comic book publishers' recent foray into the digital medium as compared to webcomics. I'm really not sure what the hell I'm arguing as yet. The differences in format, marketing, content, social issues, creator ownership etc. as well as the why and the why not I suppose. It will be a lot of rambling most likely.

Women in Comics: "Keeping female characters at this simple level also limits the male characters."

One of the things we’re interested in here at Graphic Scotland is diversity in comics. We’re undertaking a massive research project at the moment and the first thing we’re focussing on is women in comics.

 

We’ve been reading comics from the bestseller lists from Amazon, Forbidden Planet (Edinburgh) and Blackwells to see how women are portrayed.

Our mole at Forbidden Planet, Edinburgh, gives us the goods on the neglected gems, the dodgy heroes, and the comics we should all be reading.
